Nasdaq Hits Trendline Resistance
After surging last week, the Nasdaq was promptly deflated with selling pressure on Tuesday. The decline formed a reaction high just below 2300 and keeps the falling wedge in place. This is a bullish consolidation, but the index must break above last week’s high to confirm this pattern and call for a continuation of the November or January advance.

Amazon Takes on Apple
CBS MarketWatch Reports: Amazon to challenge Apple. Online retailer plans music service, possibly players to fight for share of digital music market.
The online music space is getting awfully crowded. However, Amazon looks like a natural fit for online music. The company has a big customer base and the online channels already in place. This is not a make or break offering, but will surely enhance Amazon’s offerings. On the price chart, AMZN fell sharply and then consolidated just above support. The stock broke above the consolidation high yesterday and this is short-term bullish.

Q Moto
Motorola (MOT) unveiled its new Q Smartphone to compete with Blackberry and Treo smartphones. The Moto Q is RAZR thin, runs Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, features a qwerty key board and is the lightest voice/data device on the market. Look out RIMM and PALM. You know that Nokia (NOK) and Ericsson (ERICY) will also follow one day.
As this chart shows, the day belongs to MOT, which recorded a 52-week high and is challenging resistance from its April 2004 high.

The stock is getting a little frothy with the high volume surge and gap. However, the advance since April is strong and I would expect higher prices. A pullback into the 18-19 support region would offer a better opportunity for new longs.

Growth in VoIP Telephony
AP reports that internet telephoning and conferencing is catching on in the corporate world. Boeing engineers use it for projects, Lehman Brothers uses it for voicemail, counties use it to distribute missing persons bulletins and NFL Film workers use it as they travel from stadium to stadium. The growth is big and Cisco (CSCO) looks to be one of the big winners. Cisco already has 20,000 IP telephone customers worldwide and shipped 550,000 handsets in the fourth quarter alone.
